Destiel Code of Ethics

This Code of Ethics outlines the principles and values that guide the behavior and decision-making of all volunteers at Destiel. By adhering to this code, volunteers contribute to a positive, respectful, and ethical environment for all.

Purpose

The purpose of this Code of Ethics is to establish a framework for ethical behavior and decision-making that aligns with Destiel’s mission and values.

Scope

This Code applies to all volunteers, employees, contractors, and any other individuals who represent Destiel.

Principles

Integrity

  • Conduct yourself with honesty and integrity in all actions and decisions.
  • Uphold the highest standards of ethical behavior, avoiding any form of dishonesty, fraud, or deception.
  • Be accountable for your actions and take responsibility for your mistakes.

Respect and Dignity

  • Treat all individuals with respect and dignity regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, or any other characteristic.
  • Use inclusive language and avoid any form of discriminatory or derogatory remarks.
  • Foster an environment of mutual respect and understanding.

Professionalism

  • Maintain a professional demeanor in all interactions, both in-person and online.
  • Adhere to Destiel's policies and procedures, including the confidentiality policy and non-disclosure agreement (NDA).
  • Be punctual and reliable, attending all scheduled meetings and sessions and notifying your supervisor in advance if you are unable to attend.

Confidentiality

  • Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive information, including personal information of members, staff, and other volunteers.
  • Do not disclose any confidential information without prior written consent from Destiel.
  • Refer to the Confidentiality Agreement and Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) for detailed guidelines.

Conflict of Interest

  • Avoid conflicts of interest and disclose any potential conflicts to your supervisor.
  • Do not use your position for personal gain.
  • Refer to the Conflict of Interest Policy for more details.

Health and Safety

  • Follow all health and safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Report any hazards or safety concerns to your supervisor immediately.
  • Take reasonable care of your own health and safety as well as that of others.
  • Refer to the Health and Safety Policy for more information.

Commitment to Mission

  • Demonstrate a commitment to Destiel’s mission and values in all activities.
  • Uphold the organization's vision and goals through your volunteer work.
  • Promote a positive image of Destiel in all interactions and communications.

Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Work collaboratively with other volunteers, staff, and community members to achieve Destiel's mission.
  • Respect differing opinions and perspectives and seek to resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Communicate openly and effectively, keeping your supervisor informed of any issues or concerns.

Stewardship of Resources

  • Use Destiel's resources responsibly and only for their intended purposes.
  • Protect Destiel's property and report any damage or loss to your supervisor.
  • Avoid waste and seek to use resources efficiently and effectively.

Volunteer Verification System (VVS)

  • Consent to be included in the Volunteer Verification System (VVS) as a condition of your service.
  • This includes your name, email address (if necessary), start date, departure date (if applicable), feedback status, current status, and total hours contributed.

Intellectual Property

  • Any materials, content, or other intellectual property you create in the course of your service are the property of Destiel.
  • This includes but is not limited to written content, graphics, designs, and any other work product.
  • Refer to the Intellectual Property Agreement for detailed guidelines.

Personal and Professional Growth

  • Seek opportunities for personal and professional growth through your volunteer work.
  • Participate in training and development activities provided by Destiel.
  • Strive to enhance your skills and knowledge to better serve the organization and its mission.

Ethical Decision-Making

  • Make decisions based on ethical principles and the best interests of Destiel.
  • Consider the impact of your decisions on others and the organization.
  • Seek guidance from your supervisor or other appropriate individuals when faced with ethical dilemmas.

Use of Online Subscriptions and Shared Accounts

  • Volunteers are prohibited from changing login credentials or account settings for any online subscriptions or shared accounts provided by the Organization.
  • Unauthorized changes or misuse of these accounts may result in termination and legal actions.

Monitoring and Compliance

  • All activity across Destiel.org and Office 365 is monitored to ensure compliance with organizational policies.
  • Regular audits will be conducted to ensure adherence to this Code and identify any potential ethical issues.

Disciplinary Action and Termination

  • Non-compliance with this Code of Ethics may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of your volunteer service.
  • The Organization may terminate the agreement if the Volunteer breaches any terms of this agreement, including the Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement.
